About me:
“I am excited that, at this point in my career, I can bring real value to the discussion and make a difference in the community I love. ”
I am a professional problem-solver. Every day, I work to find consensus and solve what seem to be unsolvable differences between factions. Until now, I have always worked behind the scenes, but I felt an urgency to step up and put my skills to use for our community. We live in a time of rapid and complex change, requiring careful consideration of facts and options and reasoned decision-making. I have always been Hastings' greatest cheerleader. I am excited that, at this point in my career, I can bring value to the discussion and make a difference in the community I love.
I grew up in Lexington graduating from Lexington High School in 1977. I earned a B.A. with distinction from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, in 1981 and my J.D. with distinction from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1988. I also graduated from the Schools of Banking and am a trained mediator.
My husband, Roger, and I moved to Hastings in 1997 and raised our three children, Sean, Julia, and Murphy here. We have never regretted it.
Through my work as an attorney, I served my community by taking court appointments to represent the indigent in court proceedings. I served as an adjunct professor at Hastings College for fifteen years, teaching business and commercial law and public administration.
I have served the Hastings community on the boards of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Hastings (president), The Bridge, Inc. (president), Hastings Community Theatre, the Hastings Library Foundation, and Head Start Child and Family Development Program, Inc. (president). I also served on the advisory committee to make recommendations regarding renovation of Hastings Public Schools elementary schools. I am a member of the Hastings Chamber of Commerce (legislation committee) and Lochland Country Club. I have performed in and directed local Hastings Community Theatre productions and the annual Hastings Variety Show. I have regularly volunteered to help at community events. My life and career have been about service.
